Alums Celebrate Past and Look to Future

Black Studies alums and staff

In an informal meeting on August 4, 2015, at the home of Larry and Dianna Riley, alums of UM's original Black Studies program gathered to honor the past and look to the future.

Dianna Riley presented Murray Pierce, advisor to the Black Student Union, and Tobin Miller Shearer, African-American Studies Director, framed photos of the founding members of the Black Student Union.

Those present included (from the left above) Greg Robinson, Jim Jones, Pferron Doss, Shearer, and Pierce (photo by Dianna Riley). Robinson, Jones, and Doss were visiting Missoula to promote Doss's new book - Ole Freedom - on the 25th Infantry Buffalo Soldiers bicycle corps based at Fort Missoula.

Alums of the program will gather again in 2018 for the 50th anniversary of the program.
