AAS Soup and Pie Night

Charley Bromley and President Royce Engstrom

Students, faculty, and friends of the African-American Studies Department gathered at Watani House, the Black Student Union facility, to celebrate on Thursday, April 17.

In addition to announcing this year's winner of the Ulysses S. Doss Scholarship, attendees enjoyed shrimp corn chowder, West African Sweet Potato Corn soup, and an array of pies.

Pies on table

The pies, baked by AAS Director Tobin Miller Shearer, included peanut butter pie, shoo-fly pie, reverse pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and scrumptious apple pie.

Each semester the AAS program sponsors a soup and pie night to honor the hard work of the students and faculty in the program. Any student in the minor or in an upper-division AAS class receives an invitation.
