Courses

An important goal of the BSSP is to combine the expertise of its diverse partners to generate a set of rigorous graduate level science courses that will deepen the science content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and cultural competency in science instruction of K-8 teachers to build teacher leaders who will have a lasting impact on science instruction in their schools and districts.

Geoscience, Astronomy and Physics were identified by K-8 teachers as those disciplines most in need of strengthening. Each year, a different subject area was covered in a suite of courses which included a two week summer institute, tribal culture camp, quarterly two-day workshops, and online courses.  Courses were offered on both the eastern and western sides of the state, with each course customized to specific, local tribal contexts.
