UM Debate and Speech Hits the Big Apple and Beyond
The Debate and Speech team at UM continued their trend of successful national competition with the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York. Each year we look forward to regional travel in Washington and Oregon, and national competition in San Diego or Tennessee. In the past year we have placed fifth at nationals; third in a national online tournament where we virtually debated people from across the U.S.; and top speaker, third and fourth at a tournament at Whitworth University. Beyond competitive success the team engages in fun debates on campus and in the community.
University of Montana Debate and Speech (Forensics) Team is open to all students regardless of academic major or previous public-speaking experience through an honors course (COMX 312 Forensics). Team members develop and present their skills across the U.S. through travel, online tournaments, and campus showcases. While travel to compete is not required to join the team, the debate and speech program covers the costs of tournament entry fees, travel, and lodging, while students invest the time, effort, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence necessary to prepare for and compete in tournaments. We welcome new members to the UM Debate and Speech team to join in this fun and challenging experience!
