CutBank/Oval

CutBank

The literary journal CutBank publishes two print issues a year of compelling poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction by established writers and new voices alike. Writers who got their start in CutBank include Andrew Sean Greer, Matthew Rohrer, Mary Ruefle, and more. Founded in 1973 by the Creative Writing Program at the University of Montana and managed by MFA students, CutBank also runs writing contests, prints chapbooks, and publishes interviews and other content online.

Cutbank readers gather at a bar to review submissions.

The Oval

The Oval is the undergraduate literary magazine of the University of Montana. Submissions, editing, marketing, design, and distribution are all handled by UM undergraduates who take a course together each spring.
