Emily Danforth's (MFA 2006) novel, "The Miseducation of Cameron Post," was made into a film - and that film won the 2018 Sundance Grand Jury Prize!
Danforth's 2012 young adult novel with HarperCollins is partially autobiographical. She, like her main character, grew up gay in a small town in Montana. The protagonist of her book goes through some of the same trials she experienced. The main character finds her way, in spite of the homophobia she faces.
USA Today describes the film, which is directed by Desiree Akhavan, as centering "on a teenage girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) who is outed as a lesbian and sent to a gay conversion therapy center by her evangelical aunt. Sasha Lane, Forrest Goodluck and John Gallagher Jr. co-star in the film."
