DAM (DOTUR-ARB Matching) Instrcutions
I. How to extract the files: To unzip a *.tar.gz archive, called, for example, "myarchive.tar.gz" you can type at the command prompt: "tar vzxf myarchive.tar.gz". For *.zip archives you can use the unzip command. If it's present on your computer, at the command prompt you can extract an archive with "unzip myarchive.zip." Most graphical desktops are equipped with graphical extraction programs, and a mouse click on an icon representing the archive file will often present you with an option to extract the files.
II. Linux/Mac Users Only: Programs you'll need to create the executable files: The simplest procedure requires the GNU C++ compiler and the "make" program, both of which ship with most linux distributions and the Mac OS X. (To see if both are installed, at a command prompt you can enter "g++ -v" to check for the compiler, and "make -v" to check for the latter.) The program has been tested with the GNU compiler and the Microsoft C++ compiler that comes with Visual Studio 6. Other compilers may work but have not been tested.
III. Linux/Mac Users Only: How to make the executable program file:
- At a command prompt, change directories until the current directory is the installation directory created by unzipping the archive (this is the directory that holds the file called "Makefile").
- Type the command appropriate for the installation, either "make dam" or "make dotman."
This will create the executable file with the simple name "dam" or "dotman," in the current directory.
Along the way it will also create many "object files." These are unnecessary to run the program and can be removed with command "make cleanobj."
VI. All users:
The executable (and the help file) can be moved to any desired directory for use with your data. For instructions on using the programs, see the html help file included in the installation.
