"Memory of Light" Short-Listed for Times of India AutHer Award

University of Montana Professor Ruth Vanita's novel, Memory of Light (Penguin Random House India), was short-listed for the AutHer Awards 2021. JK Paper and the Times of India collaborate to offer this prestigious celebration of women writers, now in its second year. 

Memory of Light takes place in 18th-century Lucknow. It's a love story about two female courtesans named Chapla bai and Nafis bai.

At UM Dr. Vanita teaches courses in the departments of English and South & South-East Asian Studies. She co-founded Manushi, India's first nationwide feminist magazine. She has written, translated, or edited more than a dozen scholarly books. Memory of Light is her first novel.
