The Minor

A minor in English can be a wonderful and even practical complement to a variety of majors (Business Administration, Forestry, History, Computer Science, etc.); it can both diversify one´s skill-set and deepen those spoken and written language proficiencies that are so prized by employers in all sectors of the job market.

The English Department offers a minor in the following concentrations:

Irish Studies

The University of Montana is please to offer an Irish Studies Minor. Courses in Irish culture, history, literature, and language are required to complete this minor. Please visit the Irish Studies website for additional information.

Film Studies

New in 2009, the Film Studies minor allows students to explore some of the English Department´s interdisciplinary film courses without committing to the major. This minor complements coursework in Media Arts and Theatre.

The English minor is a general minor that can include coursework in Creative Writing, Literature, Film Studies, Linguistics, or Teaching.

English Teaching

Please note that this minor is available only to those students whose primary major is in a teaching field. The English Teaching minor enables students to add English to their teaching license. Upon completion of this degree, students can teach English at the middle and high school levels.
