Event New Year Kiss

All day joking about kissing you at midnight was supposed to be fun & games
A group of friends just hanging out with anticipation of celebrating the new year
As we walked arms locked playfully heading to the ball drop
It seemed magical, but I didn’t know why

Happy New Year!

I blew my horn at midnight
Looked around at all the hugs, cheers, and momentous kisses
Awkwardly, I stood there feeling like a bashful, shy girl
I couldn’t bring myself to deliver on my promise of a kiss

I looked down at the ground
Wanting desperately to kiss you
But, my mouth wouldn’t open

Tick Tock
It’s no longer midnight

You looked at me and said, “Where’s my kiss?”
With knees buckled, heart pounding, we awkwardly kissed

To ease my embarrassment, you said, “Let’s try it again.”
At that moment, my heart was arrested
Arrested by an unexplainable
Unconditional
Yet, deliberate and intentional love
