The Good Works Studio presents a Performance Reading of HIR, a play by Taylor Mac. This dark, yet funny reading of transgender and PSTD issues will be performed on February 23rd and 24th and March 2nd and 4th in Missoula. There will be one performance in Helena on March 3rd. Suggested donation of $5 to benefit a local non-profit organization. Open to the public.

After a dishonorable discharge from the military, Isaac returns home from Afghanistan to find a different kind of chaos. Formerly abusive father, Arnold, having suffered a stroke, has turned into a helpless, childlike creature. Mother Paige, excited by this overthrow of the patriarchy, refuses to clean, and keeps Arnold docile. And little sister Max, has begun to grow a beard. Paige welcomes Isaac home to the “new regime”. When waning male privilege and PTSD collide with clown makeup and radical Faerie commune dreams, the result is explosive. Isaac, however is on shaky mental ground, scarred by his years in Mortuary Services, and reacts badly to the changes in his family, desperate to exert control and rebuild something resembling the life he knew.

HIR is directed by Hillary Sea Bard, and stars Ann Peacock, Reggie Herbert. Jaz Dierenfield, and Greg Bortz.
