Montana Arabic Summer Institute

June 17 to July 12, 2013

Sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA), the Arabic Studies Program is offering intensive Arabic to 24 high school students in summer 2013. MASI 2013 offers two levels:

  • Level 1 (for new students with no previous knowledge of Arabic), and
  • Level 2 (for students who took MASI in previous summers and for students who have studied introductory Arabic in high school - e.g., Arabic FLAP students).

Students will develop/improve Arabic language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and cultural knowledge in a fun and academic environment. Upon successful completion, students will receive five college credits.

The grant covers tuition fees and textbooks. Each student will receive a T-shirt and a USB flash drive.

What to Expect

MASI is a four-week federally-funded intensive summer program that is open to US citizens and green card holders only. Instruction starts at 9 am and ends at 2 pm -- see schedule. In addition, students are expected to dedicate about two hours everyday for homework assignments. Daily attendance is critical to meet the goals of the program.
