Student Registration & Paperwork

Division I (Grades 9-12) Registration

Important! Please review the registration process before registering. 

  1. Review the ISEF Rules Wizard and the Division I Paperwork Guide to determine what forms and approvals are required for entry into the Montana Science Fair.
  2. Complete the required ISEF Paperwork. IMPORTANT: Projects involving Humans, Vertebrate Animals, or Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents (microorganisms, DNA, or Tissues) require PRIOR approval by an SRC or IRB. Projects that do not meet this requirement will be disqualified. If you have questions about these requirements and/or the required ISEF paperwork, please submit your questions with a detailed research plan/protocol to: mssf@mso.umt.edu 
  3. Complete the MANDATORY online registration (opens Mid-December). For team projects, only one registrations is required. 
  4. For projects involving Humans, Vertebrate Animals, or Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents (microorganisms, DNA, or Tissues), submit a scanned copy of the required paperwork to mssf@mso.umt.edu.
  5. Submit the $25.00 registration fee (per student). Please make checks payable to: University of Montana - 32 Campus Drive SELL-Todd Bldg. Missoula, MT 59812 - Attention: MT Science Fair OR to pay by credit card, please email: ginger.claussen@umontana.edu or call: 406-243-4623.  Visa, Mastercard & Discover are accepted.
  6. All Division I students must display the required paperwork with their exhibit (see Division I Paperwork Guide).

Division II (Grades 6-8) Registration

Important! Please review the registration process before registering.

  1. Review the ISEF Rules Wizard and/or ISEF Rules and Guidelines with a teacher or mentor. Note: Division II students do not need to submit ISEF Paperwork (only the Research Agreement).
  2. Download and complete the Division II Research Agreement. A signed copy of this form must accompany the student(s) official exhibit
  3. If the project involves Vertebrate Animals, Human Subjects, Potentially Hazardous Materials or Biological Agents, the student(s) must have three adult sponsors willing to review and oversee the project. These sponsors must include a parent/guardian, a teacher, and a local scientist or professional who will supervise the project and attest that the project adheres to the ISEF Rules and Guidelines. Contact information for sponsoring adults will be required during online registration.
