UM senior and Neuroscience summer research student Ryan Garnsey becomes a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship
It’s been five years since UM had a student advance to such level for this prestigious award. In addition to his many achievements and activities, Ryan received a research fellowship to pursue an interdisciplinary neuroscience project this past summer. These fellowships provide a salary stipend so students interested in the neurosciences can work with UM faculty, gain valuable hands-on experience and truly immerse themselves in a research project during the beautiful summer months that Missoula has to offer. Ryan’s work, which blended literature, philosophy and neuroscience, was funded by a W.M. Keck Foundation grant to UM’s Neuroscience Program. Garnsey said the intimacy of small classrooms and enriching discussions allowed him to build lasting intellectual relationships with professors. Congrats to Ryan and all his hard work!
