Neuroscience Undergraduate Degrees

The interdisciplinary discipline of neuroscience is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing areas within the sciences. In recent years, this neuroscience focus has led to incredible new technologies and advances that have transformed the way we consider how the brain functions.

Our interdisciplinary Neuroscience major, helps you make sense of the relationships between the brain, behavior, and disease. The curriculum is broad and comprehensive, including traditional components biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology — as well as diverse perspectives from philosophy, economics, art, and computer science.

To provide maximum flexibility for your goals, the Neuroscience major consists of two-degree opportunities: Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience and Cellular & Molecular Neuroscience options.

The Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience option is ideal for students with a strong interest in the biological basis of how people learn and behave. The Cellular & Molecular Neuroscience option focuses on how the nervous system functions at the cellular and chemical levels and is ideal for pre-medical students interested in biomedical research. Both options provide classroom training as well as hands on experience in neuroscience techniques and scientific writing in both options.

UMontana’s Neuroscience program will prepare you to pursue graduate work in neuroscience or careers in medicine, academia, education, research companies, law, science writing, speech pathology, and other disciplines in which scientific knowledge of the brain are key components. Courses are taught by faculty in the Division of Biological Sciences, Psychology, Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Health, Economics, Dance, and Literature.
