Outreach

Exhibits showcasing a small portion of the UMPC’s diverse fossil collection are located on the 1st and 3rd floors of the Charles H. Clapp Building located on the University of Montana campus. Guided tours of UMPC facilities including the fossil collection and fossil preparation lab are available to school groups and interested public alike.  These exhibits are also open to the public (self-guided tour) during normal University hours (8am-5pm, Monday – Friday).

A volunteer program is available to students and non-students, ages 16 and older.  Volunteers assist the Collections Manager with daily duties, including inventory, photography, and preparation.  Prior knowledge/experience in geology, biology, or paleontology is encouraged, but not required.

The UMPC will also supply educational booths upon request for family/sciences events.  These booths will have an educator and a “show-n-tell” style display of fossils.  Past events include the KBGA Family Fun Fair and various public school Science Nights.

Please contact the Collections Manager for more information regarding volunteering or for an educational booth.

Public outreach, science, and technology are key components of the UMPC. This may involve Montana school students and teachers.
