M.A. Program Admission Requirements
All applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent degree. The degree should be in the field of philosophy; provisional admission, however may be granted to promising applicants lacking a full undergraduate background in philosophy.
Instructions for applying to the Graduate School are in the "Apply" section.
In addition to the application materials required by the Graduate School, the Department of Philosophy requires the following materials:
- A letter describing the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study in philosophy at The University of Montana. The letter should clearly indicate if the applicant is applying to the traditonal or environmental track.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- A writing sample that demonstrates the applicant's philosophical abilities.
The application deadline for the program as well as for assistantships is February 1, and the GRE must have been taken no later than the preceding January 15th. (Other deadlines may apply for financial aid; please see the Funding section.)
