Model UN

At Model United Nations conferences, students represent countries from across the world and, like real-world diplomats, participate in United Nations committees by drafting, debating, negotiating, and voting on resolutions. In doing so, they examine global affairs and conflicts from different perspectives and develop valuable political skills.

Model UN (MUN) has a long history at the University of Montana. Since the mid-1960s, UM students have organized an annual high school conference each fall and participated in collegiate competitions each spring. In 2005, the Political Science Department assumed advisory responsibility for the team and will henceforth offer an annual, fall course (PSCI 337, Model UN) in which students learn about the United Nations, convene the high school conference, and prepare for collegiate competitions.
