QSSI

The UM Group For Quantitative Study of Snow and Ice is a group of scientists from the geoscience and computer science departments, working together to conduct research on snow and ice. We are engaged in quantitative field measurement, numerical analysis, and computer simulation. Our work is focused on elucidating the fundamental physical processes that govern heat and mass fluxes within frozen water. We research processes that range from the mechanics of glacier and ice sheet movement to water flow through snow; scientific problems motivated by societal issues such as climate system dynamics, sea level rise, and water resources. Our work is focused on localities that range from Montana to the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.
