Professor Doyle Retires
With a heavy heart, UM Sociology announces the retirement of Professor Dan Doyle. Professor Doyle retired in July 2017 after 27 years of employment at the University of Montana. He received his PhD from the University of Washington in 1984, with an emphasis in Criminology, and taught briefly at the University of Northern Illinois before coming to Missoula. He served multiple terms as Chair and Co-Chair of Sociology, and as the department's Undergraduate Advising Coordinator, for which he received the UM Outstanding Faculty Advising Award in 2015. Doyle has also been involved in the Gerontology program at UM, and has been active in cultivating the relationship with UM-affiliated University of Gondar in Ethiopia.
The Sociology Department thanks Professor Doyle for his compassion, wisdom and years of selfless service to the department, the University and the Missoula community. We wish him the best of luck with all of his new adventures!
