The University of Montana’s Black Student Union is looking for new members. We are a group dedicated to our goal of being positive, inclusive and empowering our student body to be impactful in their communities. We are an equal opportunity group looking for students with diverse perspectives and backgrounds to be proactive in addressing university, city, and nationwide issues. Being a student of color is not a requirement to join the BSU. There are many issues that cross racial, political, and socio-economic barriers that affect us all. Race and ethnicity shouldn’t stop good people from coming together to create something positive. If you are someone that wants to be involved in their college experiences (not just go to class, get good grades, and work for someone else) come to our next meeting and join the best group on campus. The Transgender Studies Initiative at the University of Arizona's Institute for LGBT Studies will host Transgender Studies: an international interdisciplinary conference on gender, embodiment, and sexuality on September 7-10, 2016 at the University of Arizona. Trans*studies is a 4-day international academic conference that will highlight work from many fields on topics pertaining to transgender issues, sex/gender variance, gender nonconformity, and diverse embodiments - as well as work that draws upon trans* methodologies to inform research in other areas of inquiry. The conference will showcase work in the arts, humanities, and social sciences (social, health, and physical) and has sought out the involvement of activists, culture workers, and members of trans* communities as well as scholars and students. In addition to keynote speakers and special evening performances, the conference will feature several transdisciplinary plenary panels aimed at fostering greater dialog among scholars whose approaches to and investments in trans* studies have historically differed, and opportunities to caucus and network in small groups around shared interests in hopes that this conference will help launch an international transgender studies association. The conference schedule will include a business meeting to discuss this possibility, and to entertain proposals to host future international conferences.
