Year 1: Spring Semester (minimum 9cr)

  • Take ANTH 601 Take ANTH 602
  • Take remedial or elective classes
  • Develop a detailed M.A.Project Plan including an Internship or Intensive Field Experience
  • Form M.A. Project committee

Year 2: Autumn Semester (minimum 6cr)

  • Take ANTH 593: Professional Project or ANTH 599: Thesis (3cr)
  • Begin Internship or Intensive Field Experience
  • Take elective classes
  • File Application for Graduation
  • Do scholarly work

Year 2: Spring Semester (minimum 6cr)

  • Take ANTH 597 (3cr)
  • Take elective classes
  • Finish Internship or Intensive Field Experience
  • Write thesis or professional paper
  • Defend thesis or professional paper
  • File final draft of thesis or professional paper with Graduate School

Non-Thesis Plan

  • Appoint committee to oversee scholarly work arising from Internship or Intensive Field Experience Pass comprehensive evaluation administered by committee

 Year 2: Autumn Semester (minimum 9cr)

  • Take ANTH 597 (3cr)
  • Take an ANTH graduate seminar or 598 (3cr)
  • Take elective classes
  • File Application for Graduation Begin Internship or Intensive Field Experience

Year 2: Spring Semester (minimum 9cr)

  • Take ANTH 597 (3cr)
  • Take elective classes
  •  Finish Internship or Intensive Field Experience
  •  Finalize scholarly work arising from Internship or Intensive Field Experience
  •  File final draft of scholarly work with Anthropology Department Office

Notes

  • A graduate seminar is any ANTH class numbered between 500 and 589, 595, or 600-694.
  • Your committee must consist of three University of Montana faculty. Your committee chair must be in the Anthropology Department. One of your three members must be from a department other than Anthropology. Give your selections to the Anthropology Administrative Assistant, who will forward them to the Grad School.
  • This procedure requires submission of a form to the Graduate School. This procedure will have a deadline each semester. Please check the current course schedule or contact the Graduate School to find out about deadlines.
  • Remedial classes: one class in each of the four subfields (archaeology, linguistics, physical, socio-cultural) and a class in statistics are required prior to graduation if not taken during your undergraduate career. Elective classes are any class you wish to take that is marked UG in the catalog. Avoid taking more than 6 credits in UG classes numbered less than 400
