Founded in 1973 by the Creative Writing Program at University of Montana and managed by MFA students, CutBank publishes two print issues a year of compelling poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction by established writers and new voices alike. CutBank has been privileged to feature work by Amiri Baraka, Wendell Berry, Louise Erdrich, Richard Hugo, Seamus Heaney, James Welch, Patricia Goedicke, James Lee Burke, Chris Offutt, Aimee Bender, Steve Almond, and many others. Writers who got their start in CutBank include Andrew Sean Greer, Matthew Rohrer, Mary Ruefle, and more. CutBank also manages a frequently updated website with blogs, book reviews, interviews and writing contests.
The Oval is the undergraduate literary magazine of the University of Montana. Submissions, editing, marketing, design, and distribution are all handled by University of Montana undergraduates.
