COMX 412: Communication and Conflict

Conceptual and practical discussions of communication and conflict in interpersonal relationships, organizational settings and overall cultural milieu. Topics include culture, power, styles, negotiation and bargaining, mediation, dissent, dispute systems, and crisis communication. Offered each year.

COMX 414: Communication in Personal Relationships

An examination of the functions, types, and historical context of close personal relationships with an in-depth study of the role of communication in friendships and romantic relationships. Offered each year.

COMX 425: Communication and Health Organizations

This course explores the key issues at the intersection of health communication and organizational communication by considering communication processes that occur in a number of distinct contexts of health organizations. Through case studies and health campaigns students explore contemporary concerns and theory in the area of health communication. Offered every other year.

COMX 485: Communication and Health

Theory and research on the health correlates of human interaction. Offered each year.

COMX 491: Foundations of Mediation

Continuing Education course offered through the Missoula Community Dispute Resolution Center

This training provides practical skills needed to conduct conflict mediations, and surveys the initial steps required to become a certified mediator. Offered each winter.

Workshops and Special Sessions

The lab occasionally develops and offers workshops to the community and private organizations on topics relevant to communication and human well-being. Topics could include communicating health risks to the public and relational partners, the role of social factors in health states and outcomes, environmental rhetoric and health, and many others.
