  • Contract between the student and their advisor listing the student’s goals and the courses or other experiences that will satisfy those goals.

  • Form M.A. Portfolio Committee
  • 6 credits in ANTY 597 Research
  • 15 credits in elective classes numbered 400 to 589, 595, 596, 598, 600-694.
  • A portfolio containing the contract and all written work produced in the courses specified by the contract, documenting that the student has fulfilled their goals. 
  • Review of the portfolio or comprehensive examination.

Background Classes Required for All Students in the Forensic Anthropology Option

These classes may have been taken previously as an undergraduate.

These classes may be used as electives.

  • A class in forensic anthropology, such as ANTY 314 Principles of Forensic Anthro. 
  • A laboratory class in osteology, such as ANTY 412 Osteology. 
  • An archaeological or forensic anthropological field experience such as ANTY 413 Forensic and Mortuary Archaeology, ANTY 466 Archaeological Survey, or any archaeological field school.  A documented volunteer experience of approximately semester length is sufficient.
  • A class in statistics, such as ANTY 401 Anthropology Data Analysis.
  • A class in general forensic science, such as CJUS 488: Forensic Science the Crime Lab and Beyond.

Additional Recommended Classes

A class in multivariate statistical methods, such as ANTY 408 Advanced Anthropological Statistics.
