Steven Johnson

Steve Johnson is the Director and founder of Ecosystem Field Studies (EcoFS).  EcoFS’ mission is to provide transformative ecosystem-based learning opportunities for undergraduate college students.

EcoFS conducts 3-week, intensive courses in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and the Caribbean coral reef that focus on hands-on ecological research methods. Students from universities throughout the United States, Canada and beyond earn 3 transfer credits that are awarded through the Environment Studies program at UM.

Steve earned his Masters of Science degree from the Environmental Studies program at the UM in 1995. He has devoted his entire career to studying and teaching Rocky Mountain and Caribbean ecosystem science and has 20+ years of experience in the field of ecosystem education. He applies a holistic perspective to EcoFS curriculum, which inspires students to understand the interconnectedness of ecosystem related fields and discover their unique path of interest.
