Hydrothermal systems are regional groundwater systems with complications – rotational flow, phase change, variable density– oh my! We’ve been developing methods to interpret environmental tracers in hydrothermal systems to provide information on the age of water, extent of boiling and location of recharge. We use conceptual models based on our tracer information to derive numerical models of coupled heat and fluid flow.
