Fed Up Film a Success at the Roxy!
Thirty-five engaged Missoulians attended the July 17th showing of Fed Up, sponsored by IHH at the Roxy Theater. Fed Up, a thought-provoking documentary exposes the food industry's successful tactics to sweeten and fatten up Americans. From executive producers Katie Couric, Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of An Inconvenient Truth) and director Stephanie Soechtig. America's obesity epidemic is fed by the powerful food industry which puts profits over health. Marketing sugar and fat-laden products to children has had serious and long-lasting health consequences. The 90 minute film was followed by a panel moderated by IHH executive director Jan Van Riper and featuring Kristin Anderson, MD, Community Medical Center, and Josh Slotnick, director of the PEAS Farm. A rich audience discussion which unpacked some thorny and weighty issues like food accessibility and poverty, our complicated and individual relationships with food, and how the industrial complex influences our food choices, followed the film. Thanks to our thoughtful panelists and to all who attended.
